Game Review: Costume Quest

Costume Quest is an adventure role-playing video game developed by Double Fine Productions and published by THQ. In the game, the player controls a child that is trick-or-treating with their twin on Halloween night when they encounter a monster that kidnaps the sibling. The player must travel around the local neighborhood collecting items for their costume, candy and fellow children as companions in order to face the monster and rescue the sibling. The costume aspects are used in battle segments, where the player character and companions are transformed into the monsters and creatures they are dressed as to fight other monsters. The game is a downloadable title and was released on October 20, 2010 on the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network services.[1] A port to Microsoft Windows through the Steam platform was released about a year later.
Review:

I know, I know, Halloween is out of theme, but I dont really care. So, as Yiota already mentioned we are kinda tired and slow on our posts. But this I decided to do because its just amazing! And didnt want to be totally out of mood.

Now, the game itself is a kids game, so be prepared for some heavy repetition, simple and easy gameplay, and off course virtually no challenge at all. The game itself however is just plain fantastic.
You follow the story of a brother and sister on Halloween, when as they go out trick or treating one of them gets kidnapped by some creatures that are stealing all the candy (which one gets kidnapped depends on who you choose.) Now your character has to rescue its sibling so you wont get grounded. In the process you will unlock more costumes to help you fight the monsters, as well as meet new friends.

The game to me is freaking hilarious because the whole idea is that you will have to run around an area, trick or treating houses and either getting candy or fighting the monsters that are there to steal the candy. Now, I cant really explain how you end up turning in a huge badass robot from the future if you are dressed as one on Halloween but from my guess that is based on how kids view themselves when wearing a costume. The battles themselves are simple, based on repeatedly tapping a key, or typing a correct sequence, or just plain timing the press of a button. The battles are in a final fantasy fashion, where each player takes his turn, attacks and then has to defend from the attack to receive less damage. However that for someone used to videogames and with a certain amount of years behind him will find it both extremely easy, and boring. However the visuals and graphics are just amazing.
The graphics of the game are extremely nice, giving a cartoony feel to the entire world as well as a bit of realism (fire glows and shimmers etc etc). Also the battles and "special moves" are visually pleasant and keep the players interest. Overall despite the fact that, well they are not perfect since they come from a possibly low budget corporation, they meet the standards of today's video game graphics and maybe even put a smile on your face.

Finally, the game offers a few easy tasks for the player to do and adds to keep interest and not just abandon the game in the middle. And that is some minor quests, but most importantly. costumes. yes, costumes. In every level you are there is at least one new costume for you to collect, so that just kept me going to be honest. The sheer curiosity to see how each costume looks in battle, the animations and the "special" attack were the reason why i pushed the game to the end. Personal favorite, the pumpkin off course!!! The pumpkin king is like my top favority spooky heroes of all time!!!

To end with, this game offers few to a hardcore gamer, but so much in terms of a fun and relaxing way to pass the time. It also put a smile on my face as in every battle i remembered that when I was a kid, that is EXACTLY how I pictured myself look like when dressed with a costume. So all you Halloween fans out there, open your closet, dust your costumes and get ready to hunt candy-thieving monsters, because this is costume quest, and NO ONE will ruin your Halloween by getting you grounded. NO ONE!
